Not following the England Rugby Team

-Carys-

The owner of our apartment said he'd be coming round at around 10am, so we got up and on with things. I'd done most of my suitcase sorting yesterday, but I still had some things to do. When dad returned from his second Lake-front run in Lake Garda, we finished off our packing and took some things down to the car.

When the owner arrived, we thanked him for his apartment and went down to the car. He'd recommended a small cafe a few doors down from the supermarket as a breakfast place, so we went there for some food. We'd skipped early morning breakfast, so a brunch panini/sandwich was perfect. They were very big - mine had cheese, tomato and salad in it.

leave air b nb as you find it

At around midday we were on the road, driving away from the beautiful lake - sad to say goodbye - and towards Treviso, where we would have more Italian adventures.

The drive was about 2 hours long, with no service stops but a few wrong turns. We got there though, and had some laughs whilst doing it. The owner of our air bnb was here when we arrived and he greeted us warmly at the front door.

verona airport, romeo did most of his flying from here

warm welcome

The house is very interesting, with all sorts of unique decoration and ornaments. There are several chandelier-lights, some gothic style, and others made from random objects. The one-of-a-kind interior design makes the house feel so artistic and intriguing to stay in. I really appreciate all of the amazing decoration.

It's spacious too, with a room each and double beds. There's a fourth room too with a single bed, but that's downstairs. We especially love the fans and air con - very helpful for the intense heat. Once we'd settled in, we drove for about 10 minutes and parked in a car park just outside Treviso city.

We went for a wander to get to know the area. It was all very pretty, with winding streets and a small river running through the whole thing. After stopping in the cathedral -which had some beautiful architecture (domes and towers) - we walked back to the car.

In a supermarket we bought some things to have pizza at home, but I feel a bit sick so I might eat later on instead of now. We did have a big breakfast after all, and I've been eating snacks throughout the day.

I can;t wait to sleep in my big bed in this incredible house.

So I did another run thinking 7.30 would be a bit earlier and cooler than yesterday.  As it turned out it didn't feel as hard as yesterday but I wasn't any quicker, perhaps the scenery needed taking in, or I am simply running out of energy.  Watching the good people of Garda and Costermano setting themselves up for the day a nice way to kick things off.

We had to be  out of our Air B n B by 10am so decided to have a late breakfast/brunch so we could get our stuff together and make sure we left the place as we found it.  Gianni didn't seem too cross with us when we said Ciao and paid 3 out of 4 lots of room tax, a state requirement for the over 14s here.  Whilst not the height of mod cons, plenty of Italian charm left us with some good memories of our little home in Costermano.

everything empty, nothing left in the fridge

Had the most massive of paninis for breakfast, not the toasted style over here, actually turned out to be a doorstop type sandwich of parma ham and cheese.  Having fuelled ourselves up we did the same with the car, still nameless (probably Griswold) as the supermarket/garage has been where we have parked the last couple of days so all very convenient.

Wanted a last look at the beautiful Lake Garda so took maybe an extra 15 minutes on our journey across the top of Italy, which was mainly freeways and mid table Serie A and Serie B football teams, Verona, Vicenza, and Padua all circumvented.

We arrived (after the usual couple of wrong turnings) to our second Air B n B in Treviso, Ada's Place.

Now this is really worth a look, a veritable art gallery, with all the rooms being thought out to connect with the past, present and future. http://www.lacasadiada.it/vacation-rental-house-treviso/  Will let our own artist in residence provide some more commentary on this as we learn more about the influences over the next couple of days.  Our host Fabrizio could not be more helpful. He had researched parkrun so could direct us accordingly, I think any parkrun tourists should now have this as their base for Treviso runs.

He also provided us with a bit of local insight into where we could park to have a look around Treviso.  He somehow seemed to also know the bars the English rugby team are frequenting after their warm weather training out here, which I was completely oblivious of.

Having enjoyed a bit of normal wi fi for an hour or so we drove to the outskirts of Treviso and parked up to take a look around the walled city.  A mini Venice they say, somewhere for the rich Venetians to frequent back in the day, and lots of medieval streets.  Interesting to know why rugby has taken hold here to the extent it has, perhaps the public school game?

we love our bridge shots

The cathedral at the centre of Treviso was pretty impressive, whilst my lack of religion is longstanding, I can appreciate architecture, history, art and ambience from time to time, and with the local organist practising when we entered, I was able to find a few moments of ethereal thought, before going outside to look for the English rugby team.

Being welsh we only looked in one place, and then were more interested in finding our way back to our lodgings, routing via the park in which the Treviso parkrun is held and the local supermarket.  Our dinner was around the hand made table in Addo's Place, family conviviality at its finest.  And the piece de resistance was a nice slice of tiramisu (following pizza) a delicacy that originates from Treviso.

no sauce needed

Having explored the origins further thought some interesting stuff you and I should know ...  https://www.accademiadeltiramisu.com/en/the-origin-of-tiramisu-fact-and-legend/

Hats all folks

Weirdest breakfast ever, in keeping with our rather cheap and cheerful, rough and ready, raggedy Prague hotel. Hot Dogs for tea is it boys?...
